Getting Errands Done / Girl Time

Yesterday Averie and I had a girls night to pick up a couple things she needed for camp and school supplies. Elisabeth was able to join for a little while too. I kept her out and up waaaaay past an acceptable time. I let her wear lipstick. And I took her shopping.

First we picked up a couple things at Dicks, then went to dinner (where she told me how she was disappointed that a place called “Cheddars” didn’t have tacos – because they have cheese on them) and then hit up Barnes and Noble where we met Liz.

Of all the things on a packing list for camp I didn’t expect a bible despite it being a Christian camp. Totally makes sense, but she didn’t have one. She already tries to read the little mini New Testament one she got from a parade somewhere, but struggled with the translation… so it was a logical thing for her to get her first bible yesterday that was in a more kid friendly translation. She’s so excited to have it and has been highlighting in it already.

We closed down Barnes and Noble then hit Target to get her school supplies for next year and closed them down too. Then like any other good responsible parent that already has their 8 year old out at 11 PM, I gave her more sugar and hauled her to Walmart to snag a couple of things I couldn’t find at Target. In my defense? I did try to get her to nap in the cart. We even gave her a pillow… Then Liz and I buried her in groceries.

Highlight of the night though was taking Liz back to her car and Averie growling when we got there “Do we have to go into old Navy too? Can’t I stay in the car?” I said “No” and then got out of the car (leaving it running) to help Liz unload her things. Averie got out of the car and fell for it when I told her we would race her to the door. She ran all the way to the door, ran back halfway and I yelled to her that we would meet her inside, so she ran back to the door again before realizing they were closed. There’s a video to show her reaction. What it doesn’t show is how hard Liz and I were laughing. Maybe you had to be there… but it was hilarious.

We got home and she stayed up to help me get groceries out and put away too. She really was a trooper. She also slept until noon today

It was a much needed girls night. It was late. We were crazy. And we got a little more connected. With everything that goes on with AJ and work and the house and my needing to just get away on the few nights my moms able to come and take over, Averie and I don’t get a lot of “fun” time. It definitely helped – and not just by marking school shopping off my to do list.
