Adenovirus, Rotavirus and Astrovirus – Because one wasn’t enough?

In our newest installment, this little guy upgraded his diagnosis list for this admission by another two viruses – we already knew he had Adenovirus, but we’ve added on Rotavirus and Astrovirus (which sounds waaay cooler than it is, though under a microscope it looks like stars, so I guess that’s kind of cool…)

That definitely explains the level of poop we’ve been dealing with all day long.

Tonight we grabbed some labs to check his electrolytes and are giving his tummy an evening of rest by putting him on IV fluids overnight. All-in-all his electrolyte levels weren’t too bad, his potassium was a little on the low side so he got a little boost to that. But given the day he’s had, it was reassuring to see that he was still in pretty decent shape on those labs.

He’s also had what looked some blood in his stools, so we’re doing a guiac test to confirm if there’s blood or not and paves the way for testing for Cdiff, which we are really hoping he doesn’t have!

Praying for progress and that he’s Finally feeling a bit more like himself soon!! And that he sleeps tonight and let’s mom actually get more work done tomorrow during normal people hours!
