Daddy had to work a lot of hours this weekend, and we don’t have weekend nursing, so we definitely had our hands full at home.
I’m super proud of how this girl stepped up to plate to help with her brother.
When we sat down to eat on Friday she told me to sit down and eat first and she’d watch AJ since the food was too hot for her. She played with him and talked to him while I sat down to eat.
He definitely is enamored with her and would watch her walk in and out of the room every time she would come and go all weekend.
Friday night and tonight she helped me with trach cares. Something I was scared to do before I had enough practice. I took the job of holding his trach in while she undid his ties and cleaned up his neck and put them back on nice and tight (which his nurses will attest I’m pretty picky about!)
Tonight after his trach cares she put special socks on him (they came with the fox in socks book, thanks Lasairiona) and read him the story too. He had a pretty good attention span for it, all things considered.
She could easily resent him and want nothing to do with him, most new siblings do upset the home life balance and AJ takes it to the next level, but she really does love her little brother.
So that said, all in all, he’s doing well. He did spike a little fever tonight that we are keeping an eye on. So far it’s not bothering him any – he just feels warm to the touch. Hoping whatever it is that he will be able to kick it to the curb fast. With Averie’s school just starting up, I suspect we will end up with a number of little bugs here and there. Just hoping none of them turn out to be big ones. He does have his first series of Drs appointments coming up here on the 31sr. Keep your fingers crossed and prayers said if you could!
