These cookies were actually my first attempts at royal icing… I learned a lot from this batch of cookies, so please excuse the shaky lines and crumbling edges!
If you’re thinking about giving cookie decorating a try — don’t be afraid to go for it — but definitely try to start out simple in terms of the number of colors, it makes life a lot easier. These were made with just orange and white, and I later added a tiny bit of brown for the stems.
You could just as easily make some fun ‘white’ pumpkins without using any brown too though:
The hardest part about decorating cookies with royal icing (aside from the time constraints) is planning. You have to plan out what colors you’ll need and what order you need to apply them in. The fewer colors, the less planning will be required. And the less cleanup too. And I’m all about less cleanup!
They look yummy enough to eat in my book. . . :0)
