It’s a good when bed swaps are considered “exciting”

The last couple of days have been pretty uneventful for AJ – which is what we’ve been hoping for! He did take a couple of trips down to IR — once to check his diaphragm and make sure his muscles were attached correctly and that there wasn’t a muscular problem causing his chest to retract when he had been off the ventilator (there’s not), and the second trip was to get his feeding tube placed correctly.

Today AJ’s bed had to be swapped out for a new bed (part of the cleaning regimen). This meant that he had to be out of his bed for a period of time, and his nurse today asked if I’d be willing to hold AJ while he changed out his bed. Of course he didn’t have to ask me twice, and AJ and I got in a little over 2 hours of much needed cuddle time.

Right now the goal is to give AJ some time to get some strength and to get him up to full feeds (he’s about halfway there). They’re also working to open up more of the upper part of his lungs by doing some breathing exercises and adjusting settings on his ventilator.. hoping for an uneventful weekend!
