Short and sweet today – AJ has been working on different vent settings – trying the ventilator without pressure support or machine mandated breaths for a couple hours today, trying out the trach ring for 5-10 minutes at a time (oxygen only – no ventilator), and has successfully made it through all of those attempts so far.
The hospital has been amazing – with volunteers and even the hospital staff bringing in gifts for the kids. It makes being “stuck” in that environment a little more cheerful and bearable. Plus, most of the gifts are activities that help keep Averie busy in a small enclosed space – so they’re definitely appreciated!
Right now cardiology is waiting on a copy of AJs cath from CHOP, they noticed some narrowing in his shunt on his echo. CHOP had mentioned the same but determined during the cath that the blood flow was good enough that they didn’t see a concern, so for now UIHC just wants to get it and compare it to what they’re seeing on the echo to see if things look to be the same or not.
Other than that, it’s last minute Christmas prep time for all of us, Santa has two stops to make for us – home for gifts under the tree and the hospital for stockings!
