Not every area is full of progress. Eating orally is still something he’s largely not interested in.
He will take about 10 “bites” off of a syringe like this of either his blended diet or baby food — about 2 teaspoons total. And it takes us 30 minutes and lots of distraction and convincing to get that done. There’s nothing physically stopping him from being able to eat by mouth, he’s just not convinced it’s a good idea yet.
We try to go through this process once a day – thankfully our nurses are amazing and help with this too. It’s exhausting and not necessarily fun for anyone involved and occasionally it even ends in him throwing up.
He will, however, gladly lick ALL of the salt off of a pretzel, potato chip, french fry, etc..
