Tape Free Life…

This little cutie has almost clear cheeks and is nearly back up to full volume of feeds of skim milk through his fancy gtube as of this morning.

We’re keeping an eye on his thyroid and blood pressures, he does have hypothyroidism and an issue related to a stress hormone that may ultimately require him to be on steroids. We are also keeping an eye on his lungs as he tends to have issues with collapsing or fluid in his lungs, which should hopefully get better as soon as he’s allowed to move around a bit more. He had an episode last night with his left lung that left him needing quite a bit of extra support overnight, but he’s doing better this morning and is back down in terms of ventilator support again.

Aside from that, he’s healing well and has been more awake than I had expected. As long as he’s not thrashing about and potentially damaging his tracheotomy site, he will get to stay lightly sedated instead of nearly knocked out.

Friday will bring his first trach change and the beginning of training on his care. Discussions about what’s next will be starting in the near future as well, and he will be able to get out of bed to be held again too. There’s still a long road ahead, but it’s a little easier to see the path through the trees when you can see the happy little smiles on his face and interact with him so much more! Thank you to everyone for the continued prayers and support. It really does make all of the difference!
