Trying out CPAP on the Vent

Earlier today, AJ spent an hour with his ventilator switched over to cpap settings. Basically that means that he was in charge of breathing on his own, but he was getting a steady stream of air pushed in to help keep his airway open. That went well, so the plan is to do another hour later tonight. And his meds for pain/sedation continue to be weaned down.

He’s spent most of the afternoon awake and interactive, barring a nap in my arms this afternoon for an hour or so.

Having the trach put in was a hard thing to accept, but he is really a whole new baby. He’s much happier and interactive. Sure do wish we could hear his voice though! He tries so hard to “talk” back and make noise. I know that eventually he will most likely be able to do that with with his trach too if we can get off the ventilator anyway, but I sure do wish it were now!

That’s it for now, nothing major and exciting, which I am definitely okay with!! Thank you for the continued thoughts and prayers!!
